What makes Colorado family vacations so memorable? Head to one of these three spots to find out.
Estes Park
Estes Park has it all in the way of Colorado family vacations; shopping, horseback riding, golfing, fishing, hiking, and biking. There is no better place to enjoy the beauty nature has to offer. The quaint shopping areas are perfect for spending a day strolling around. The mountains in Estes Park offer an escape unlike any other. Lodging is extensive, with options ranging from bed and breakfast establishments to hostels and camping, as well as plenty of hotels and motels.
Depending on the time of year there are many organized events to participate in. During the summer months there are outdoor concerts and plays. Christmas time offers sleigh rides and snow shoe walks. September is the time of the Longs Peak Scottish Irish Highland Festival. This is an event for everyone to have fun, relax, and experience something new. There are kilts everywhere, jousting, hammer throwing, and authentic Scottish music. And the food is incredible; sweet potato fries, kettle corn, and fresh corn on the cob dipped in melted butter, for starters. So bring your camera and a rain jacket (rain is very likely that time of year) and savor an experience unlike any other.
Glenwood Springs
Centered around a pool fed by a natural hot spring, this is near the top of my list for Colorado family vacations that will leave you reinvigorated and ready to return to the stresses of daily life. The pool takes up three city blocks and includes a water slide, larger main pool, and smaller pools that are kept at a higher temperature. If planning on spending more than a day here you may want to stay at the Hot Springs Lodge since they offer family packages where the hotel rate includes free access to the pools.
Another appealing aspect of Glenwood Springs that makes it the perfect Colorado family vacation is its location in the mountains with caves and trails for exploring. There are cave tours as well as a vapor cave where natural spa treatments can be savored. The whole family will never be bored while taking advantage of the things to do there.
Great Sand Dunes
Come to this national park to experience sand like you have never seen it before, where Colorado family vacations don't get any better than this. Visitors are able to slide, sled, roll, or ski down the sand dunes. Need I say more? What kid, or adult who has a kid within, would not like to play here? It is truly a playground for the whole family.
In addition to the activities on the sand dunes there are rivers, lakes, and mountains that can provide additional adventures. Just remember your sunscreen and sandals since the sand can become very hot. With kids in tow bring along a large umbrella for shade and plenty of cool water to fight off dehydration. Enjoy!
Although there are many wonderful Colorado family vacations, these three are guaranteed to leave your kids smiling and happy.
