The name Budapest was not always the name of this capital city of Hungary. First there was Obuda, Buda and Pest, historic cities along the Danube. Budapest was born in 1873, when the cities united as one. Budapest is, divided by the Danube River and united by the Chain Bridge. The combined histories of Obuda, Buda and Pest make up the early history of Budapest, creating a rich and interesting history of growth and development through the centuries. Budapest is symbol of resilient courage recovering from wars and tragedies down through centuries. The National Theatre and Concert Hall and many museums, art galleries and cultural events continue the long cultural history of Budapest.
The Budapest Airport, buses, trolleys, trams, underground rail and train systems form the transportation network in Budapest. The availability of transportation resources makes getting around in Budapest easier for tourists. The Budapest Card will take visitors to places in Budapest and offer discounts at restaurants, spas, museums, and entertainment sites. The best time to travel to Budapest is between May and September for most tourists. There are hotels in abundance and restaurants with traditional and ethnic foods. The best restaurants in Budapest will be those where the locals eat. Seek and you will find!
For those who visit between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Christmas Market is an unforgettable experience. However, the magnificent beauty of Budapest is an event, which never ends. Like the seasons of the year the beauty of Budapest continues to flow as the waters of the Danube River.
