Dating back to the times before the Domesday Book, the historic city of Warwick has plenty to offer its visitors. It is the county town of Warwickshire and lends its name to this English county.
The most famous building associated with the city is Warwick Castle, which has been on its current site since 1068, making it almost a thousand years old (Warwick itself is older and can be traced back to at least 914 AD). The castle is a major tourist attraction in the UK and visitors from all over the globe to visit this magnificent building. Those who are brave enough can fire a trebuchet - a kind of catapult that can send 30 pound stone balls over impressive distances. If your children get tired of the buildings, there are also amusement rides for them. Older visitors can take advantage of the regular paranormal events that are held at the castle - who knows, you may even encounter a ghost on your visit.
Whether your hotel is in the centre of Warwick or the outskirts, you won't be far from the shopping. Many of Warwick's shops and restaurants are still locally owned and run, so you will be able to experience some of England's cultural diversity when you visit.
A number of different festivals are hosted in the city. These range from classical and contemporary music through to a folk music festival and a Victorian Evening, held late in the year, where you can step back in time.
Horse racing enthusiasts may want to time their visit to Warwick to coincide with one of the 25 race meetings that take place throughout the year. Or you may just prefer to play a round of golf on the course that is in the centre of the racecourse.
Theatre goers will want to make a trip to the Dream Factory Theatre, home of the local youth troupe, the Playbox Theatre Company. They perform a wide variety of plays throughout the year at affordable prices.
You will be spoilt for choice if you choose to ignore your hotel's restaurant and eat out instead. Warwick offers both traditional and international cuisine, so you can decide to eat a traditional English roast dinner or get more adventurous at Indian, Chinese, Italian or Thai establishments.
One of the main shopping attractions in Warwick is the array of antique shops that still thrive there, specializing in furniture, pottery, jewellery and other artifacts. You could also browse around the three antique centres that are featured in Warwick, each of which has a large number of stalls to keep avid antique collectors happy for hours.
Apart from the golf course in the centre of the racecourse, there are plenty of other courses available within easy reach of the city. Whether you want a leisurely 9 hole round of golf or would prefer to challenge yourself at the Championship level of Warwick Golf Club.
Whatever you decide to do in Warwick, there are plenty of places that you can stay at. These range from friendly, small, bed and breakfasts through to the larger guest houses and hotels.
